“He’s here,” confirmed Kats’ general manager Bob Flynn, “he signed today.”
As defensive secondary coach Brenard Wilson came out into the hallway I mentioned his new player. A broad smile crossed his face as he said, “That’s good news!”
When head coach Pat Sperduto appeared I asked him about the new guy. “We love him,” he responded, “I wanted him a few years ago, but he signed with Colorado.” When several players were waived last week because of salary cap problems, the Kats put in a waiver claim and were able to land this veteran who should provide a needed boost to their defense. Could he start this week against the Philadelphia Soul? “I hope so,” Sperduto responded, “We’ll see how this week goes.
A lot of teams had weaknesses exposed in the opening week. The Kats have moved quickly and decisively to shore up their defense by picking up Ahmad “Birdman” Hawkins.
Charliy Nash has covered both incarnations of the Nashville Kats, and now has make the 2 hour drive to Huntsville for an Arena Football fix. He also covers the Tennessee Titans as a blogger for nfl.com and still hopes this will eventually lead to a paying gig.
