Shock Acquire Veteran QB Zbydniewski
Tuesday May 20, 2014
SPOKANE, WA (May 20, 2014) – The Spokane Shock have acquired quarterback Brian Zbydniewski (6-1, 215) in a trade from the Cleveland Gladiators in exchange for future considerations and the ninth position in claim order.
Zbydniewski returns to the Shock after stints with the team in 2006 and as a part of the 2010 ArenaBowl XXIII championship team.
Since leaving Spokane he has played with the Tampa Bay Storm, New Orleans VooDoo, and Cleveland Gladiators. As the starter in Tampa Bay for 11 games in 2011 Zbydniewski completed 62.3 percent of his pass attempts for 2,825 yards and 56 touchdowns with a passer rating of 108.95.
In his four-year AFL career he has thrown for 5,010 yards and 93 touchdowns with a passer rating of 95.58 while adding 25 rush attempts for 40 yards and six touchdowns.
“We’re excited to have someone in here that understands the game, someone who has been around for a long time,” Shock Head Coach Andy Olson said. “Having his knowledge of the game should help us out on Friday.”
Zbydniewski played his collegiate football for the Belhaven Blazers from 2003-04, where he left his mark all over the record books. Zbydniewski is first in single season passing yards (3,888), career 300-yard passing games (16), and single-season total offense (3,632). He is also second in the school’s records in career passing yards (6,704), career touchdown passes (42), and career 200-yard passing games (21).
Two corresponding moves to make room on the roster, wide receiver Adron Tennell was placed on injured reserve and quarterback Jarrett Brown was placed on reassignment.
The Shock take on the San Jose SaberCats on Friday, May 23 at 7 p.m. PDT at Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena. Tickets can be purchased for as low as $14 by visiting SpokaneShock.com.
