Former Philadelphia Soul DL Justin Warren Joins SaberCats

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The SaberCats announced today that they have been assigned three-year Arena Football League veteran and former Philadelphia Soul defensive lineman Justin Warren on a two-year contract. The AFL’s open free agency period began on Monday Nov. 5.
"Justin is a tremendous addition to our defensive line," said Owner/Head Coach Darren Arbet. "We are looking forward to getting him out to San Jose and continuing to build on our success at that position from 2012.”
Warren (6-3, 255, Texas A&M) spent the 2012 season as a member of the American Conference Champion Philadelphia Soul. He made 14.5 total tackles last season, recorded two-and-a-half sacks, forced three fumbles and recovered one more in eight appearances. Warren found the end zone once as well, returning a fumble 36 yards for a touchdown on June 24 in a win over the Pittsburgh Power.
The Tyler, Texas native spent his first two AFL seasons with the Dallas Vigilantes from 2010-11. In 2011, in 15 appearances, Warren made 23 total tackles, had five sacks, intercepted two passes, forced a pair of fumbles and recovered two more fumbles for the Vigilantes. In his rookie campaign in 2010, the former Aggie posted 31 total tackles, eight sacks, a forced fumble as well as a recovery in 11 games.
The 6’3” defensive lineman began his professional career signing as an undrafted free agent with the New England Patriots of the National Football League in 2007. He spent 2008 in af2 with the Spokane Shock, posting 43.5 total tackles, six-and-a-half sacks and two fumble recoveries in 15 appearances. In his second season, he helped the Shock to the ArenaCup championship in 2009, posting 88.5 total tackles, 15.5 sacks and recovering five fumbles.
Warren spent four seasons at Texas A&M from 2003-06 as a linebacker in College Station. He led the team in tackles in both his junior and senior seasons, posting 95 and 90, respectively. As a junior in 2005, Warren was the leader in the Big 12 Conference in tackles per game at nine-and-a-half.
