Mitch Tanney Earns Shot After Impressive Open Workout
TAMPA – The five-time world champion Tampa Bay Storm have signed quarterback Mitch Tanney, Head Coach and General Manager Tim Marcum announced today.
“Mitch is a young guy we think we can develop,” said Marcum. “We are going to give him a chance to show what he can do in training camp. He showed us that he has some tools at the open workout and we are excited to work with Mitch”
Tanney, 6-foot-3, 215-pounds, from Monmouth College will make the leap from af2 to the Arena Football League. He spent the 2007 season in af2 with the Alabama Steeldogs where he led the Steeldogs to the first round of the playoffs. Tanney completed 325-of-490 passes for 3,404 yards and 67 touchdowns with season game-highs of 324 passing yards and seven touchdowns.
A 2006 graduate of Monmouth, Tanney completed 74.4 percent of his passes for 2,469 yards, 33 touchdowns and earned Midwest Conference Player of the Year his senior season. He began his professional career in the summer of 2006 in the Swedish Super Series with a team in Malmö, Sweden and then worked out for the Philadelphia Eagles in the National Football League prior to joining the Steeldogs.
The Lexington High (Lexington, IL) graduate prepped under the tutelage of his father Don Tanney, Head Coach at Lexington and followed in his father’s footsteps as a quarterback at Monmouth College.
