Valor to Host Free Agent Open Tryout
Tuesday August 30, 2016
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Washington Valor will hold a free agent open tryout on Oct. 8 as they launch their inaugural season presented by MedStar Health in 2017.
Head Coach Dean Cokinos along with his staff will conduct the workouts and evaluate the players.
“Open tryouts give our staff a great look at many players who may not yet have had the opportunity to break through the evaluation process as well as give other players a second chance at the pro level,” said Cokinos.
Participants will be able to pre-register online for a $75 entry fee or on the day of the combine for a $100 entry fee. Location and time will be announced at a later date. All participants at this year’s tryouts will receive an official Valor free agent combine t-shirt.
“We’re in a talent-rich region and hope to find some quality players who can contribute to our organization,” added Cokinos. “We are seeking talented, tough, hardworking players from the area and beyond and this will be the first chance for potential candidates to showcase their abilities.”
The open tryout will feature traditional combine testing drills which include the 40-yard dash, short shuttle and broad jump. Participants will also be placed into individual position and group-specific drills. Players should wear comfortable athletic shorts or sweat pants and a t-shirt. The tryout surface will be astro or field turf, therefore turf shoes or molded bottom cleats are required. No track spikes or removable cleats will be permitted.
