Preds release Johnson, sign Rubin

Tuesday May 27, 2008

ORLANDO, FL—On Tuesday the Orlando Predators announced the release of wide receiver Ron Johnson. At the same time the team signed wide receiver DeAndrew Rubin who has spent two years in Orlando.

Johnson was leading the Preds with 102 receptions this season for 965 yards and 10 touchdowns. His release comes as somewhat of a surprise because of his leading role in the Predators’ offense.

“Ron was a great player for us,” head coach Jay Gruden said. “We just feel like we need to get better on offense right now and DeAndrew Rubin gives us a chance to do that.”

Rubin returns to the Predators after spending the beginning of this season with the New Orleans VooDoo. During the 2007 season, Rubin was having a great year before breaking his arm in Week 4 and having to sit out the remainder of the season. In 2006, Rubin was part of the Preds squad that went to ArenaBowl XX as he was named IronMan of the Game in the National Conference Finals against the Dallas Desperados.

The Preds return to action this Saturday night as they host the Arizona Rattlers (6-6) at 7:30 p.m. inside Amway Arena.
