BOLTUS’ TDS; DEFENSE LIFT TAMPA BAY STORM PAST NEW ORLEANS 42-13

TAMPA, FL – Quarterback Jason Boltus tossed six touchdown passes, three of those in a key third quarter as the Tampa Bay (2-2, 1-0) defeated the New Orleans VooDoo (1-3, 0-2) Friday night in an Arena Football League game at the Amalie Arena, 42-13.

Boltus, the Russell Athletic Offensive Player of the Game, also threw for 224 yards on 19 of 29 attempts.

His main target was Kendrick Ings (63 yards) and T.T. Toliver (68 yards) but got two each TDs to Phillip Barnett and Julius Gregory.

The Storm put the defensive hammer down in the third quarter and the offense responded with three scores on Boltus’ passing. He was eight of 13 in the quarter for 87 yards. The defense held New Orleans scoreless in the second half.

An opening quarter drive saw Boltus connect with Phillip Barnett for nine yards; a 4th down stop of the Voo Doo set up a drive and six-yard toss to Barnett. This before James Harrell’s fumble on the ensuing kickoff set up a 23-yard pass to Kendrick Ings, giving the Storm a 35-13 lead.

Harrell, the outstanding defensive back out of Arkansas Pine-Bluff, also collected an interception in the end zone and two pass breakups. He was named the Riddell Defensive Player of the game.

Recently signed Storm defensive lineman Frank Mays (6-9, 295, Florida A&M) backed up the front three, Everett Dawkins, Brandon Sesay and Richard Clebert and had a blocked field goal attempt (34 yarder) to close out the half with the Storm leading, 14-13.
