VooDoo Blaze Through Second Consecutive Road Win

Sunday July 7, 2013

NEW ORLEANS (July 6, 2013) – The New Orleans VooDoo (5-10) conquered the Utah Blaze (5-10) 63-49 in front of a crowd of 7171 inside the EnergySolutions Arena Saturday night.

After a VooDoo defensive stop to start the game, both teams traded scores as VooDoo wide receiver Quorey Payne completed an 11- yard pass from QB Chris Dixon before a Utah six-yard touchdown grab from WR AJ Jackson. New Orleans quarterback Chris Dixon capped off the ensuing drive with a three-yard touchdown on a designed quarterback run, making it 14-7.

To start off the second quarter, Utah fullback Ben Stallings evened things out with a one-yard run into the end zone. Utah defense proved efficient as the VooDoo drive resulted in a missed field goal attempt by VooDoo kicker Kenny Spencer. Utah took their first lead of the game as Utah’s Boltus threw a 33-yard touchdown to WR DeJay Lester. However, New Orleans evened the score off a late touchdown reception by VooDoo WR L.J. Castile, leaving the game tied 21-21 at halftime.

New Orleans QB Chris Dixon opened up the third quarter with a one-yard run and VooDoo DB Chris Brown returned an interception for 26 yards to the endzone to make it 35-21. Utah responded late in the third with a four-yard touchdown. The two teams traded big shots to close out the third, as QB Chris Dixon tossed a 34-yard score to Larry Beavers and Utah QB Jaosn Boltus found Lester on a 44-yard touchdown. The VooDoo close out the third quarter with a 42-35 lead.

Midway through the fourth quarter VooDoo’s Quorey Payne hauled in two touchdown passes. Utah countered with 19-yard touchdown pass to make it 56-42. Dixon rushed for his third touchdown of the night on the ensuing drive and Chase Deadder closed out the game with a four-yard scoring reception.
