VooDoo suffer last minute defeat

NEW ORLEANS (June 8, 2013) – The New Orleans VooDoo suffers a last minute 65-56 loss against the Philadelphia Soul in front of 8,035 fans at the Wells Fargo Center.

The VooDoo came out strong with a defensive stop and an almost immediate 39- yard strike to WR Donovan Morgan to put the VooDoo on top. The VooDoo managed to outscore the Soul in the first half with another TD pass to WR Courtney Smith.

The second quarter was filled with scoring as the teams traded touchdown for touchdown. The VooDoo scored on a 1-yard run by QB Kurt Rocco, a 23-yard catch by WR L.J. Castile, a 28-yard pass completion to WR Donovan Morgan for his second touchdown of the night. WR Courtney Smith’s second touchdown of 4 yards earned him the Cutter’s Catch of the Game. Philadelphia managed to match the VooDoo’s 28 points. The Soul scored on a 35-yard catch by WR Tiger Jones to start of the second quarter while a 7-yard run by FB Derrick Ross earned him the Spalding Highlight of the Game. WR Ryan McDaniel wrapped up the half by scoring twice on a 4-yard catch and a 3-yard catch. The second quarter ended with New Orleans in the lead, 42-35.

The third quarter looked much like the first two quarters with each team scoring back to back touchdowns. However, the Soul defense was able to score on a VooDoo turnover. The third quarter ended with the VooDoo leading the Soul 49-48 after the Soul failed to convert the extra point.

The VooDoo came out strong once again to start the fourth quarter where they extended their lead on a 28-yard catch by WR L.J. Castile. The VooDoo lead the Soul up until the Soul managed to force another turnover and score on a 1-yard run by FB Derrick Ross with :05 left in the game. The Soul defense managed to stop New Orleans While getting a safety to end the game with The Soul victory, 65-56.

The New Orleans VooDoo will play at home against the Tampa Storm next Saturday, June 15 at 7 p.m. CT.
