NEW ORLEANS (March 29, 2011) – The New Orleans VooDoo (0-3, 0-3) are returning home to take on the Georgia Force (1-1, 0-1) in The Graveyard on Saturday, April 2 at 7 p.m. The VooDoo will be returning to The Graveyard after their first road trip of the season at the reigning South Division champion Jacksonville Sharks.
In the game against the Sharks, the VooDoo fell 64-33, sending the team to their third consecutive loss to open the 2011 season. Leading New Orleans in the game was wide receiver Carlese Franklin with five receptions for 104 yards and three touchdowns.
Entering the game against Georgia, PJ Berry leads the AFL in all-purpose yards with a 242.3 yards/game mark. The Hopewell, Va. native is also 10th in the AFL in receptions a game, averaging nine per outing.
The Force counter with quarterback Brett Elliott who is fifth in the league in passing yards (287.5 yards/game) and sixth in pass efficiency (118.9).
The Georgia Force has historically given the VooDoo trouble, owning the all-time series 6-2 between the two franchises. The VooDoo is 1-3 against the Force all-time in The Graveyard. Georgia was idle last week, and entered their bye week after suffering a loss to Jacksonville.
The VooDoo has lost six straight to Georgia and has not won in the series since 2004 when New Orleans won 44-40 in The Graveyard. Veteran VooDoo signal caller Danny Wimprine is 0-2 against the Force, and Georgia is the only team in the South Division from 2008 that he has not beaten in his career.
Also, the Force is the only South Division team that the VooDoo has not faced in the 2011 campaign. Following the game against the Force, the VooDoo will go into its first of two bye weeks. The team will then play at the Cleveland Gladiators before returning home to face the Pittsburgh Power on Friday, April 22.
