Rush to retire McMillen and Moyer jerseys

Thursday February 3, 2011

CHICAGO (February 3, 2011) – The Chicago Rush announced today that the team will retire two jerseys during the 2011 season. Bob McMillen, current Rush head coach and former AFL fullback/linebacker, is set to have his jersey retired during the April 30th game against the New Orleans VooDoo. John Moyer, former Rush defensive lineman, will have his jersey retired on May 29th during the game against the Tulsa Talons.

McMillen played for the Rush from 2003 to 2007, and finished his career as the league’s second all-time leading rusher with 1,514 career yards. He was named one of the league’s 20 Greatest Players, and is one of two players in the AFL to win an ArenaBowl Championship with three different teams. McMillen joined the Rush as a Fullback/Linebackers coach for the 2008 season and served as assistant head coach during the 2010 season. The 2011 season will be his first season as the team’s head coach.

“This is truly a great honor,” says McMillen of his jersey retirement. “The Chicago Rush organization has played such an integral role in my career. I hope to continue making the organization and its fans proud.”

“In 2008 the Rush held a Bob McMillen Appreciation Night to honor the last regular season home game of his storied career. Now the club will retire both his jersey and John’s in gratitude of their great play and leadership both on and off the field,” stated club President and General Manager, Gene Nudo.

Moyer joined the Rush in 2002 and played through the 2008 season. His best season came in 2004 when he recorded a Rush franchise record of 10 sacks and was selected as the AFL’s Lineman of the Year. He also holds the Rush career sacks franchise record with 32.5.

“John was the best defensive lineman I ever played with,” says McMillen. “He was a true leader that made everyone around him better.”

The jersey retirements will be a highlight of the season-long 10th Anniversary celebration. The April 30th game will feature a commemorative Bob McMillen Bobblehead giveaway, while the May 29th game will feature a Moyer #99 Rally Towel giveaway.
