Storm to host open tryout October 18

TAMPA BAY – The five-time world champion Tampa Bay Storm and AS-I-B will host an open tryout for the 2009 AFL Season on Saturday, October 18 at the 31st Street South Sports Complex in St. Petersburg, Florida.

This one-day tryout is open to all interested players.  All players will receive the opportunity to sign a professional contract with the Storm.  Former open tryout players to play for the Storm include current standout wide receiver Hank Edwards, four-time ArenaBowl Champion and current Boca Ciega High School head coach Stevie Thomas.

The camp will be directed by Tim Marcum, Head Coach and General Manager.  Several af2 coaching staffs will also be on hand to evaluate talent as well as Tampa Bay Storm stars Brett Dietz, Tyrone Timmons, Tim McGill and former Buccaneer and owner of AS-I-B Ian Beckles.

Coaching staffs will evaluate players in combine exercises such as the 40-yard dash, broad jump, shuttle runs and position drills.

Interested players are encouraged to pre-register at www.tampabaystorm.com.  Pre-registration ends Friday, October 17 at noon.

Players can also register at the 31st Street South Sports Complex the morning of the tryouts.  Registration will begin at 9 a.m., is $50 for players who pre-register online and $60 for those registering the day of the event.  Payment must be by cash or certified check.

Directions from Tampa International Airport

Take the SR-60 Ramp towards I-275/Downtown and merge onto SR-60.  Travel south on SR-60 and merge onto I-275 South towards St. Petersburg until you reach Exit 19 (22nd Avenue South).  Take exit 19 and stay left at the fork to go onto 22nd Avenue South. Once on 22nd Avenue South take a right at 31 Street South and head south, the sports complex is down on the right hand side.

Directions heading North on I-275

Head North on I-275 across the Skyway Bridge (toll).  Once across the bridge stay in left lane and take Exit 17 to 54th Avenue South and take a right heading east.  Once on 54th Avenue get the left lane and take a left at 31st Street South and the sports complex is on the left hand side
