Georgia Force improve to 7-5 with 40-29 win over New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS, LA – Georgia’s defense propelled the Force to a 40-29 win over the New Orleans VooDoo. The Force defense recorded three defensive stops in the final quarter of action and held New Orleans to six points in the second half of the contest. Force rookie DB Stephen Cason earned Defensive Player of the Game honors after collaring 13 tackles, one tackle for loss and one pass defensed. Cason led a defensive secondary that did not allow a single receiving touchdown by a VooDoo receiver. QB Chris Greisen completed 26 of 30 passes for 266 yards with four touchdowns in addition to one rushing score on one carry for one yard and was named Offensive Player of the Game for his efforts. Georgia’s receiving corps was led by WR Troy Bergeron who hauled in eight grabs for 93 yards and two touchdowns.
Georgia and New Orleans fought back and fourth in the first quarter with the Force holding a 14-10 lead at the end of play. The Force offense opened the game with a four-play drive that resulted in a 21-yard touchdown pass from Greisen to Bergeron for the first points of the contest. New Orleans’ offense responded with a 24-yard screen pass to FB James Lynch to tie the game. Georgia pulled a play from their bags of trick as WR Carl Morris caught a lateral and threw a pass to OL James Clark for an 18-yard score. The VooDoo tallied a field goal on their next possession to end the first period of play.
Georgia’s third touchdown of the contest came on a four-yard pass to FB/LB Matt Huebner from Greisen to give the Force a 21-10 lead. The VooDoo scored the final 13 points of the quarter and took a 23-21 advantage into the half. Both Lynch and WR Sale Key hauled in touchdown passes from QB Danny Wimprine to account for the scores.
The third quarter saw a combined 12 points scored between the two teams and with the VooDoo leading the Force 29-27. Each quarterback recorded rushing touchdowns in the quarter with Greisen’s coming from one-yard out and Wimprine’s from four yards.
The Force outscored the VooDoo 19-0 over the final 18 minutes of play to record their fourth straight win as they defeated New Orleans 40-29. WR Tiger Jones and Bergeron tallied Georgia’s points in the final quarter of play. The Force defense recorded three stops in the final quarter of action to secure the victory.
