The Los Angeles Avengers (1-0) will make the trip to take on the Arizona Rattlers on Monday at U.S. Airways Center.

The Avengers are coming off a great come from behind victory against the New Orleans VooDoo 59-42, and know its up to the Avengers to get a repeat of of the last meetings between the to team.

The history behind the two teams are a long one since the teams have meet 18 times in the 22 year history of the Arena football league and its currently tied the series with 8 wins each. The thing is the Avengers have taken fice of the last six games and most of them have been played in Arizona at the U.S. Airways Center.

The last time the two teams meet the Avengers left Phoenix with a 55-52 victory as the Avengers came back to win it during a fourth quarter run that was held together when third year quarterback Sonny Cumbie 31-of-44 for 318 yards and
six touchdowns found receiver Robert Quiroga in the end zone on fourth down to cut an 11-point halftime deficit to 45-41 and you know what they say the rest is history as the fans in the stands held there breath when Lineman Jason Stewart grabbed a tipped ball out of mid air and ran it 24 yards for the score.

“I just looked up and the ball fell right in my hands,” Stewart told the Avengers media relasions department of the pass that was initially batted by lineman Silas Demary. “It all starts in the trenches and we are a second half team. We just needed to put all the parts together.”

Los Angeles would see the endzone again with 4:22 left in the game to make the score 55-45 after a touchdown reception made by reciver Rob Turner who finished with eight catches for 126 yards and four scores.

But the Rattlers where not going to be giving up that easily as they got a score with 34 seconds remaining but the teams try at an on side kick was unsuccessful as the Avengers know just needed to run out the clock.

Also rookie player Linebacker/Defensive End Justin Hickman will be going to familiar turff as he grew up in Phoenix where he attended St. Mary’s High School before he started his college career at UCLA.

The game will kick off at 8 p.m. (PT) and be televised live on ESPN2 and ESPN2 HD.  In addition, this showdown between longtime Western Division rivals will be broadcast live on AM 570 KLAC and in Spanish on ESPN Deportes 1330-AM.
