Blaze Offense on Record Pace

The team leads the AFL in scoring with an average of 69 points per game. At that pace the Blaze would destroy the current record for points in a season, 966, set by San Jose in 2003. If they continue at this pace, the Blaze would amass 1,104 points or 14 percent more than the record.
Of course it’s not likely they will stay at the 60 points-per-game pace, but to break the record they would just need to average 57.5 per game the rest of the season.
The Blaze has scored on 41-of-50 possessions this season, 40 of those for touchdowns. The one field goal was the game winner by Steve Videtich at the buzzer in Week 1.
Quarterback Joe Germaine is also on pace to break some AFL records of his own. Through the first four games, Germaine has thrown for 1,357 yards and 29 touchdowns. At that rate he would finish the year with 5,428 yards and 116 touchdowns. That would break the yardage record by 587 yards, or 12 percent. If he throws for 116 touchdowns, which would set an AFL record by 11 touchdowns. That is a 10 percent increase over the 105 Clint Dolezel threw last season in Dallas.
As a team they are also on pace to set the record for first downs, 364, three more than the 361 recorded by Dallas in 2003. At their current rate the Blaze would gain 5,652 total yards. The AFL record was set by San Jose last season with 5,151. That would break the record by an impressive 10 percent.
Now obviously it a still a little early to believe they are going to break all these records, but it is fun to think about. There are 12 games left and anything can happen, but if the first four games are any indication of what is to come the league better get ready to do a major overhaul of its’ record book.
