Big Night for Videtich in Opener

Videtich entered the game needing just six points to become the Arena Football League’s all-time leader in points by a kicker. He claimed that honor with 1:20 left in the first half when he converted his third extra point. In the half he recorded three PAT kicks and had a 23-yard field goal.
More importantly to the Blaze however, were the two kickoffs that resulted in recoveries for Utah, one in the end zone for a touchdown. With 40 seconds left in the first quarter he bounced one off the iron and two bounces later into the hands of Blaze defensive specialist Kelvin Hunter. Utah turned that into the field goal that tied Videtich for the scoring record.
After Utah’s next touchdown, Videtich’s kickoff ricocheted off the net and was eventually recovered by Thal Woods in the end zone for another Blaze touchdown. That score put Utah ahead 31-14 heading into the half, and gave them all the momentum.
In the second half, Videtich added a 23-yard field goal. He also recorded a tackle, and his final two kickoffs went short of the net and through the end zone, resulting in a touchback and bad field position for San Jose.
It was a recorded setting night for the kicker. He finished perfect on his six extra points, plus was 2-for-2 on his field goal attempts. He finished the game with 12 points giving him 1,260 in his career. However, it was his brilliant kicking on kickoffs that was key to the Blaze and their 48-35 win over the SaberCats Saturday night.
