Van Andel Field Gets New Name

At a morning press conference yesterday, Grand Rapids Rampage owner Dan Devos announced that the team has entered into a deal with Centennial Wireless for naming rights to the field at the Van Andel Arena. The Rampage will now play their games on Centennial Wireless Field at Van Andel Arena. Following the press conference, the new name was unveiled for the first time after being painted in each of the end zones. The company will also have two dasher boards along the sidelines, one on each side of the arena.

Grand Rapids becomes just the third team in the Arena league to have a corporate sponsor for their playing field. The Orlando Predators play on Hummer Field at TD Waterhouse Centre and the Colorado Crush play on Frontier Airlines Field at Pepsi Center.

The three-year agreement, which runs through the 2008 season, should put to rest any rumors that the team was going to fold or move. "We’re committed to continue to make it work here," said Devos. "That’s what we’ve always said. This is just an outward example of that."

The company will also be the title sponsor for the team’s home opener each year. It will be known as the "Centennial Wireless Kickoff Classic."
