Terrance Sanders and Andrew Nierman return to Spokane
SPOKANE, WA (October 16, 2012) – The Shock have been assigned offensive lineman and fullback Andrew Nierman and defensive back Terrance Sanders. Each player has agreed to a two-year deal with Spokane for the 2013 and 2014 AFL seasons.
Sanders, a graduate of Eastern Illinois, will rejoin the Shock for his third year in Spokane. In 2012, Terrance was on pace to set new franchise records before having his season cut four games short after suffering a wrist injury. He was able to register 75 tackles, 14 pass break ups, and 7 interceptions on the season. On special teams, he returned 70 total kickoffs for 1,595 yards and 4 touchdowns. During the regular season, Terrance was named the JLS Ironman of the week twice and also Defensive Player of the Week. At the conclusion of the 2012 regular season, Terrance was named to the first-team all-arena team as a kick return specialist and second-team all-arena as a defensive back.
“Terrance brings the big play potential and veteran leadership that you need on every football team. Last year, he was a consistent presence for us in the defensive back field and played a key role in multiple wins for us last year with his ability to create turnovers and make plays on special teams,” said Shock Head Coach Andy Olson.
Nierman, a graduate of Tulane, joined the Shock in 2012 where he played at center and fullback. In 16 games, he served as a versatile offensive lineman and strong pass blocking fullback while carrying the ball 27 times for a net of 29 yards and four touchdowns. He also recorded three receptions for 25 yards and two touchdowns. Prior to joining the Shock, Andrew played his rookie season as a fullback for the AFL’s New Orleans Voodoo where he started in five of six games that he appeared in.
“Andrew is a versatile offensive lineman who gives you that old school fullback feel when he’s on the field. He’s a hard-nosed guy that never shies away from contact and is a solid pass blocker up front. He’s going to be a great addition to our roster for the upcoming seasons,” said Shock General Manager Ryan Rigmaiden.
