VooDoo sign DB Damon Mason, make roster moves

Tuesday June 14, 2011

NEW ORLEANS (June 14, 2011) – The New Orleans VooDoo activated wide receivers Carlese Franklin and Lucas Taylor and defensive lineman Jemelle Cage from the injured reserve list, while also signing longtime AFL veteran defensive back Damon Mason, announced the front office on Tuesday afternoon.

Mason, a native of LaPlace, is a 12-year AFL veteran who prepped at Destrehan High School (Destrehan, La.).  The prep standout went on to play collegiate football at Louisiana-Lafayette.

Mason’s last stop was with the Orlando Predators in 2010.  Mason has played seven of his 12 professional playing seasons with the Predators, having three separate stints with the team.

Franklin is coming off of the injured reserve list for the second time this season, while Taylor has been sidelined since the team’s game at Chicago in Week 8.  Cage only played in one game for the VooDoo prior to being injured.  In his only game against Cleveland, Cage had an assisted tackle before his game was cut short in the second quarter.  All three were active participants in today’s practice.

To even out the 24-man roster, offensive lineman Rico Ochoa was placed on team suspension.
