Shock shuffle roster - Hansen and Sheffield added

Thursday May 19, 2011

May 18, 2011 Spokane, WA: The Spokane Shock announced today that QB Casey Hansen and QB Steven Sheffield have been added to the 2011 roster. In another transaction, QB Bill Stull has been placed on the Injured Reserve List and WR Chas Gessner has been released.

Hansen and Sheffield were brought in earlier this week for a workout and each earned a spot on the roster after Stull and QB Kyle Rowley were placed on the IR List.
Hansen, 6-5 235, was a member of the 2009 ArenaCup Champion Shock. That season, he completed 72.4% of his passes (42/58) for 543 yards, with 13 touchdowns and no interceptions.
“Casey proved himself during the 2009 season and again this week in practice,” Head Coach Rob Keefe said. “On short notice, it is great to get a QB who already has Arena experience. He has cannon for an arm and he is extremely accurate.”

Sheffield will make his professional debut in the AFL after concluding his collegiate career in 2010 at Texas Tech. During his time as a Red Raider, Sheffield completed 69% of his passes (134/194) for 1578 yards with 17 touchdowns.
“If it weren’t for the NFL lockout, a player like Steve Sheffield would not be available to us,” Keefe explained. “He has a huge upside and I’m excited to teach him the Arena game.”
Hansen and Sheffield will both be eligible to play in this Friday’s game, although the lineup has not been released yet.
Friday night the Spokane Shock host the Tampa Bay Storm for an ArenaBowl XXIII rematch at 8 PM. Tickets for the game are still available and can be purchased by contacting TicketsWest.
