VooDoo unable to reverse curse in The Graveyard, Fall to Talons
Sunday May 15, 2011
NEW ORLEANS (May 13, 2011) – Friday the 13th proved to be unlucky for the New Orleans VooDoo (2-7) in their 48-35 loss to the Tulsa Talons (4-5) in The Graveyard.
Despite PJ Berry’s four-touchdown performance, the VooDoo fell short of victory due to the three turnovers that led to 17 points for the opposing Talons.
“Turnovers, fumbles, interceptions, and not converting on fourth down did us in again,” said head football coach Derek Stingley. “I don’t understand. We go on the road play tough, good football; we come home and we just got to put it together.”
“It is disheartening that we can win on the road, but we can’t do it for our fans, our coach, and our owner at home,” said VooDoo wide receiver PJ Berry.
Completions from Danny Wimprine to Berry counted for 24 points toward the VooDoo’s final score, while one 3-yard pass from Wimprine to James Jordan also contributed to the tally. All of Jonathan Ruffin’s point-after attempts were good, adding five more points to the home team’s total.
Tulsa’s Bongarra kicked a field goal in the final minute of the game adding to their point total to give the Talons a 48-35 victory over the VooDoo.
The VooDoo will be back in action next week against the Arizona Rattlers, with kickoff slated for 7 p.m. in The Graveyard. The game will be televised live on the NFL Network.
