Jackson, Peters, Farris and Todd earn week 11 honors

Arkansas’ Chris Denney grabs Catch of the Week Award

CHICAGO – Austin fullback/linebacker KAMAU JACKSON, Quad City wide receiver KRIS PETERS and defensive backs BLAKE FARRIS (Peoria) and JAMES TODD (Texas) have been named the JLS Ironman, Schutt Offensive Player and ADT Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, for Week 11 of the 2008 season. In addition to these three awards, the Cutters Catch of the Week Award for Week 11 goes to Arkansas wide receiver CHRIS DENNEY.

JLS IRONMAN OF THE WEEK
Jackson (6-1, 290, Mississippi State) had a strong all-around effort for Austin in the Wranglers’ 59-51 road win against Southwest Division foe Bossier-Shreveport. The four-year veteran from Mississippi State was a factor on both sides of the ball. Offensively, Jackson had nine rushes for 39 yards and one rushing touchdown and also caught a five-yard touchdown pass to close out the second quarter. He was also an impact player on defense with 1.5 tackles, one sack, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. His contributions have been key in the Wranglers’ strong play of late. Austin has won five of its last seven contests to move into a tie with Corpus Christi for first place in the Southwest Division. This is the first weekly af2 award of Jackson’s career. He currently leads the Wranglers in rushing yards (167) and rushing touchdowns (6) and has also registered 22.5 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss and three forced fumbles on defense.

SCHUTT OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Peters (5-9, 170, Alcorn State), now in his third af2 season, had an impressive individual showing for Quad City to help the Steamwheelers to a 60-54 home victory against Mahoning Valley. The Alcorn State alum had 12 catches for a Week 11-high 186 yards receiving and five touchdowns. Peters also accumulated 193 kick return yards (171 KO return yards, 22 MFG return yards) to finish with 379 all-purpose yards (2nd-highest single game total in 2008). His fourth TD reception was his 88th overall as a Steamwheeler which broke Tim Dodge’s team record. This is the first weekly league award of Peters’ career. He currently leads the af2 in all-purpose yards (2,164) and ranks second on the squad in receiving yards (937), receiving touchdowns (21) and scoring (132 points – 22 TDs).

ADT DEFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Farris (6-0, 205, North Alabama) was an impact player on defense in Peoria’s 50-44 Week 11 home victory against Midwest Division foe Louisville. The Pirates rookie from North Alabama made quite an impression with eight total tackles (6 solo, 4 asst) and two interceptions. Both of Farris’ picks came on the Fire’s last two drives of the game to preserve Peoria’s win. This is the first weekly league award of Farris’ career. He leads the Pirates in tackles (52), interceptions (8) and passes defended (18). Todd (6-0, 180, Baylor) had a stellar night defensively in Week 11 for Texas in the team’s, 47-35, road win at Rio Grande Valley. The rookie from Baylor was a big reason behind the Copperheads’ earning their first road win in team history. Todd recorded 6.5 total tackles (6 solo, 1 asst), two pass breakups with three interceptions (Week 11 high) and 63 interception return yards. This is the first weekly af2 award of his career. Todd leads the team in tackles (48.5) and passes defended (18) and is tied for the team lead in interceptions (5).

CUTTERS CATCH OF THE WEEK
Denney (6-3, 210, Nebraska-Omaha) is the Week 11 recipient of the Cutters Catch of the Week Award, a weekly honor that emerged in 2006 to highlight the player who makes the best catch of the week. Denney’s catch was an 11-yard, second quarter touchdown stab in the Twisters’ 48-26 road victory against Amarillo. The rookie from Nebraska-Omaha layed out to make an acrobatic one-handed grab off a pass from Kyle Rowley with a Dusters defender draped on his back. Denney also caught two more touchdowns in the contest to finish with seven catches for 104 yards and three scores. This is the first af2 weekly honor of Denney’s career. He currently leads the team in scoring (114 points) and receiving touchdowns (19) and ranks second in receiving yards (681) and receptions (44) in just five games played.
