Pettis named AFL IronMan of the month for May

Desperados WR/DB Wraps Up Monthly Award After Capturing Two Weekly Honors In May
 
DALLAS, Texas – For the fifth time in his career, Dallas Desperados WR/DB Will Pettis has been chosen as the AFL Ironman of the Month for May as announced by league officials today.
 
Pettis finished the month of May with 613 all-purpose yards and 13 total touchdowns, including 35 receptions for 338 yards and eight touchdowns, three rushes for five yards and two rushing touchdowns while also completing the first two passes of his career – both for three-yard touchdowns -  on offense. Defensively he added 15.0 tackles, two pass breakups and returned an interception 42 yards for a touchdown to mark the first of his career and also returned 12 kickoffs for 222 yards and added two missed field goal returns for 15 yards - all despite missing one game during the month against the Grand Rapids Rampage (5/10) with a hip flexor injury.
 
For the season, Pettis leads the team offensively with 91 receptions for 992 yards (10.9 avg.) and 24 touchdowns while he is second on the team with eight rushes for 34 yards (4.3 avg.) and five touchdowns and has completed two-of-two passes for six yards with two touchdowns. Pettis has also returned 43 kickoffs for 741 yards (17.2 avg.) and is fifth on the team with 22.5 tackles, two interceptions and four pass breakups on defense.
 
Pettis has won Ironman of the Week 10 times in his career, including four times this season in Week Three against Colorado (3/17), Week Seven against New Orleans (4/12), Week 13 at Orlando (5/23) and Week 14 at Cleveland (5/31). He has previously been named Ironman of the Month five times in his career (2005 – February; 2006 – January/February; 2007 – March/June) and was named Ironman of the Year following the end of the 2007 regular season.
 
The Desperados return to action on Saturday, June 7 when they host the Philadelphia Soul (10-3) for an Eastern Divisional game at the American Airlines Center. The game will be available locally in Dallas on Metro Sports Time Warner Cable – Channel 185 as well as on ESPN360.com and AFL Net.
