Former Firecat Brown Named ADT Defensive Player of the Week

Wednesday March 12, 2008

Estero, FL – Former Florida Firecats defensive back Levy Brown has been named the Arena Football ADT Defensive Player of the Week for Week 2. Brown, now playing for the AFL’s New York Dragons, recorded a team-high six-and-a-half tackles, two interceptions and two passes defensed as New York (1-1) defeated the Kansas City Brigade (0-2), 50-47, at Nassau Coliseum on Sunday.

“I am blessed to have the opportunity to put my best foot forward and show what I can do,” said Brown. “There are so many veteran’s in this league that when you get the chance to make a play you have to step up.”

After just two games, Brown leads the Dragons with 17 tackles and three interceptions. In 2007 he was named the af2 Defensive Player of the Year after leading the Firecats with a team record 132.5 tackles and 14 interceptions.

“Levy was the best defensive back in our league last year and now he’s getting a chance to show that he can do in the AFL,” Firecats Coach Kevin Bouis said. “ He’s a tremendous player who did great things for us the past two years and I’m happy to see him get the chance to prove himself at the next level.”

The Firecats begin their 2008 training camp this Friday March 14th. The teams first practice will be held on Saturday March 15th at Estero High School.
