Soul acquires Horn from Arizona

PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia Soul announced the acquisition of former NFL wide receiver CHRIS HORN to the roster on Thursday. Horn was acquired from the Arizona Rattlers in exchange for defensive lineman Jonathon Engram.

Horn was with the NFL’s Carolina Panthers during training camp this past season. In four preseason games he made nine catches for 81 yards, but was released prior to the start of the season.

This will mark Horn’s second stint in the AFL, as he played two seasons with the Rattlers starting in 2001. In 28 games over the two seasons, he registered 134 receptions for 1,675 yards and 37 touchdowns.

His best season came in 2002 when he totaled 104 catches for 1,329 yards and 29 touchdowns.  He also ran for five scores and added two more TDs, one on a fumble recovery and the other after a missed field goal, to lead the League with 36 touchdowns that season. For his efforts he earned first-team All-Arena League honors as an offensive specialist.

Horn’s other NFL experience came with Kansas City, playing with the Chiefs from 2003-04. After not seeing any action in his first season, Horn totaled 15 catches for 178 yards and one touchdown in 14 games. He also returned for kickoffs for 44 yards and made eight tackles on special teams.

He also played in the NFL Europe with the Amsterdam Admirals in 2004, ranking second for league with 593 yards on 34 catches with one touchdown in 10 games.

Collegiately he played at Rocky Mountain College, ranking seventh in NAIA history with 249 catches for 4,168 yards when his career ended. Horn was named Frontier Conference MVP his senior season and was inducted to the Rocky Mountain College Hall of Fame in 2005.

Earlier this offseason, the Soul signed wide receiver Chris Jackson to a two-year contract. Jackson joined the Soul after playing with the Georgia Force for the past two and a half seasons. A 2007 first team All-AFL member, Jackson caught 145 passes for 1,915 yards and 47 touchdowns. He also had four TDs rushing.
