77-41 win keeps Boise in playoff contention

BOISE, Idaho - The Boise Burn, fighting for their playoff lives, scored a season high 77 points and held the af2’s number one scoring offense to 41 points to the delight of 5,169 fans at Qwest Arena Saturday night.  The Burn keep their postseason hopes alive with the 77-41 victory over the Central Valley Coyotes in their home finale.

Casey Allen (Schutt Offensive Player of the Game) started the scoring 2:09 into the game. BJ Rhode (12-22-0 172 yards 3 TD’s) connected with Allen from 12 yards out for the early 7-0 lead. 1:47 later, Central Valley QB Brian Luke, threw a screen pass to FB Donyell Booker, who took it in for the 13 yard score tying the game at 7. With 5:12 left in the first quarter, Rhode hit Allen again, this time from 25 yards out for the 14-7 lead.

Central Valley knotted the game up again when Luke hit Jason Barnes for a 4 yard score a minute and 22 seconds into the second quarter. The Burn outscored the Coyotes 21-0 the final 11:20 in the quarter. Caleb Spencer scored a pair of TD’s. The first on a 9 yard pass from Bart Hendricks, followed by a 16 yard run giving Boise the 28-14 lead. Emmett White (US Army Ironman of the Game) made it a 35-14 halftime lead on an 8 yard run with 16 seconds left in the half.

The Coyotes scored on their first two possessions of the third quarter. Brian Luke found Barnes on a 6 yard score and Tonae Martin from 5 yards out, cutting the lead to 7 at 35-38. The Burn took control of the game from then on. Allen’s third TD of the game from 33 yards out and a Sullivan Beard 13 yard fumble recovery for a TD, increased the lead to 21 heading into the fourth quarter.

Boise outscored the Coyotes 28-13 in the final quarter. Emmett White, scored his second TD of the game (2 yard run), Ahmad Harris caught a pair of TD’s (17, 10) and Corey Dodds finished the Burn scoring with a 37 yard fumble recovery for TD.

The Burn wrap up regular season play next week on the road as Boise travels to Tri-Cities for battle next Saturday at 6:00 pm (MDT).
