Tuesday May 8, 2007

May 8, 2007 – Chicago Rush wide receiver Bobby Sippio was named the Arena Football League’s Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in last night’s 59-48 win over Colorado.

Sippio equaled his own team record with 15 catches for 159 yards and five touchdowns as the Rush (8-1) erased a 13-point deficit to win its team-record eighth game in a row.

“He is one of the best receivers in the league, and we all had a chance to see that last night as he and Colorado wide receiver Damian Harrell really put on a show,” said Rush head coach Mike Hohensee

The AFL’s Player of the Month for April, Sippio is enjoying a career year.  Through nine games he already has set career highs with 94 receptions for 1,347 yards and 40 touchdowns.

In addition, with his performance last night Sippio now holds the record for touchdowns in the first nine games of a season, breaking Eddie Brown’s mark of 36 set in 1994.  He also became just the fifth person in AFL history to record six, five-TD performances in a season.
