Valor Head to Tampa Bay for Matchup with Storm

Thursday May 18, 2017

Washington tasked with slowing Hippeard-led offense for second consecutive week

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Valor (1-3) take on the Storm (4-1) on Sat., May 20 at 7 p.m. at Amalie Arena in Tampa Bay in a rematch of last weekend’s showdown at Verizon Center. Washington QB Erik Meyer, who now sits alone at 24th on the AFL’s all-time passing list, looks to build on a franchise-record five-touchdown performance in the teams’ Week 6 matchup.

VALOR PLAYER TO WATCH: WR GREG CARR – Carr found the end zone for the second consecutive game last week against the Storm, following up on his 100-yard, two-touchdown performance in the team’s previous outing. The former Florida State Seminole and 2014 AFL Rookie of the Year has established himself as one of Meyer’s go-to options, especially in the red zone, where his 6’6”, 230-pound frame makes him nearly impossible to keep away from the ball.

STORM PLAYER TO WATCH: QB RANDY HIPPEARD– The fifth-year AFL veteran leads the league in completions, attempts, completion percentage, passing yards, passing touchdowns and passer rating and is coming off a 205-yard, five-touchdown performance last weekend against the Valor.

MATCHUP TO WATCH: TB WR JOE HILLS vs. WAS DB TRACY BELTON – Last weekend against the Valor, Storm WR Joe Hills gathered nine receptions for 85 yards and three touchdowns. Hill now has at least three touchdowns in 10 of his last 11 games and at least one touchdown in 73 consecutive outings. Valor veteran DB Tracy Belton leads the team in both tackles (20) and interceptions (3) and will be tasked with slowing down the vaunted Storm passing attack. Belton was tied for the team lead last weekend with five total tackles and also recoded his fourth pass break-up of the season.

BROADCAST INFORMATION: Saturday night’s game will be broadcast on Monumental Sports Network.
