Rattlers Sign a Pair of Defensive Backs

DB Gerard Lawson and DB JC Neal join Arizona

MESA, Ariz. - The Arizona Rattlers announce the signing of DB GERARD LAWSON and DB JC NEAL.

Lawson signed a one-year contract with the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted free agent in 2008. He played in 20 games for the Browns from 2008-2009, making five special teams tackles and four kickoff returns for 115 yards.

Following his stint with the Browns, Lawson played with the Hartford Colonials of the United Football League where he returned an interception 41 yards for a touchdown in his debut. Lawson notched 23 kickoff returns for 483 yards. In 2010, Lawson signed a three-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles. He returned two kicks for 24 yards during the regular season. In postseason play, Lawson returned three kicks for 55 yards.

 "I'm happy to be a part of the organization," said Lawson. "I'm looking forward to helping the Rattlers during the 2012 season."

Lawson played collegiately at Oregon State, where he collected 62 tackles, two interceptions, four pass breakups and three forced fumbles in his career.

Neal tried out with the Miami Dolphins in 2008. The defensive back earned Second Team All-Arena honors with the Tulsa Talons in 2011, collecting 109.5 tackles, 21 pass breakups, nine interceptions, four fumble recoveries and five forced fumbles.

"I'm excited to get to Arizona and be a part of the organization," said Neal. "The Rattlers have a great winning tradition. This is my second year in this league. I know I did a lot last year, but I am ready to do a whole lot more and get this team a championship."

Neal played four seasons with NC State, often excelling on special teams. He blocked several kicks and returned one punt and one kickoff for scores during his Wolfpack tenure.
