Celebrating the history of the Arena Football League

Fountain of Youth Key to Sea Wolves Hopes

Arena Football League franchises’ rosters are limited to 24 active players. Of those 24 men, Trumbull Street’s Indoor Warriors have 12 rookies. In the coming weeks this number may prove to be a blessing rather than a hindrance, however. Quarterback Tim Carey is at last beginning to understand the offense more and more as it begins to flourish.

What was once the franchise’s biggest concern has become one of their biggest advantages- Rawness. When asked what the team’s biggest hole to fill was, OS Anthony “Coz” DiCosmo, Damian Harrell’s replacement replied “There really isn’t any one hole, it’s just our inexperience.”

DiCosmo’s statement is referring to their inexperience with each other and the intricacy of this unique brand of football these gladiators must adjust to. Coz helped lead the 10 point rally late in the fourth against Carolina with 8 receptions for 127 yards including a touchdown reception and 2 TD rushes.

The squad is fairly inexperienced, but that has yet to truly hamper the Sea Wolves’ latest hot streak. Even during their 2 losses to Los Angeles and San Jose they remained competitive throughout the entire game. A few of the Sea Wolves, young and old, have had experience with other leagues. Some examples are; Tim Carey who played with the Hawaii Hammerheads of the IPFL was also invited to the Oakland Raiders’ Training Camp, Kicker Matt George was on the Pittsburgh Steelers’ roster at one time, DiCosmo spent last fall with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and OL/DL Eddie Blake has also spent time in the NFL. These few that have experience may aid New England’s newer members in keeping their cool in the clutch games of the remainder season and post-season.

Even the Sea Wolves’ fallen stars of the 2000 season, Damian Harrell and Chad Salisbury, were relatively new to the game. Salisbury was fresh out of Buffalo University when New England signed him this year and Harrell hasn’t even played 11 full games in his brief indoor career.

Somehow they still fight on, casualties and all, and remain one of the league’s top competitors and a playoff picture so bright, Head Coach Mike Hohensee has even flirted with the possibility of the Wolves actually hosting a playoff game.
