Miller High Grad and Franchise All-Time Passing Leader Looks to Regain Form
Corpus Christi Sharks Vice President / General Manager Larry Linde announced today that the team has been assigned QB John De Los Santos and that De Los Santos will be active for the Sharks upcoming home game this Saturday against the Texas Copperheads.
In 15 games last season, Corpus Christi native De Los Santos threw for nearly 2500 yards and 46 touchdowns. The former Miller High School product came into last season with limited arena football experience but showed dramatic improvement after taking over for injured starter Fran Johnson. De Los Santos impressed the Sharks Coaching Staff and garnered the respect of teammates by demonstrating tremendous toughness and resilience.
Following the 2007 season De Los Santos underwent reconstructive knee surgery and has been rehabilitating since. The normal rehab time for his type of surgical procedure is upwards of a year; however, De Los Santos completed the process in a littler over 6 months. “It’s just another example of how tough and determined John is”, said Sharks head coach Mike Trigg.
De Los Santos has been practicing well and will be active in the back-up role behind Fran Johnson. Ironically enough, Johnson will be making his return to the starting line up following a knee injury sustained in the first game of this season. “I think the departure of (Brian) Villanueva this week was based on his belief that both Johnson and De Los Santos were out performing him in practice -- that he may just be the odd man out”, said Trigg. “The benefit for me is now I can transition from a teaching mode with Villanueva and go into a strategy mode with both Johnson and De Los Santos”.
The Sharks will host the Texas Copperheads Saturday night at the American Bank Center. It’s Ladies Night with the Sharks sponsored by Jenny Craig and Planet 102.3 FM with a special focus on Breast Cancer Awareness. The Sharks will be using a special football with pink highlights and will wear special pink jerseys that will be auctioned off at the game. Proceeds will benefit First Friday and the Susan G. Komen Foundation (on behalf of Corpus Christi Cancer Center). Additionally, the first 1000 ladies through the door will receive a diamond courtesy of Monica’s Fine Jewelers - 999 will be Cubic Zirconium’s and one will be a diamond valued at over $1200. Tickets for the game are available for as low as $11 For more information call the Sharks Office at (361) 882-9292.
