Wings defeat Sharks 66-55
Saturday April 5, 2008
The Corpus Christi Sharks stumbled out of the gate for the second straight week and suffered a 66-55 loss to the division rival Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings (1-1) Friday night at the CenturyTel Arena in Bossier City Louisiana.
Brian Villanueva, who joined the Sharks on Tuesday, started in place of injured quarterback Fran Johnson and couldn't find a rhythm early in the game as the Sharks (1-1) spotted the 'Wings a 20-0 lead just 7:16 into the action.
The lead proved to be too much for the Sharks to overcome despite a late game surge as Bossier-Shreveport's quarterback, Gary Cooper, threw for six and touchdowns and ran for two more.
Villanueva, who threw three first half interceptions, rebounded to throw four second half touchdown passes as the Sharks comeback attempt fell short. Villanueva finished 22 of 49 for 239 yards and five touchdowns and ran for another.
Jonathon Graham had a game high 9 receptions for 110 yards and a score while Jarvis Powers and Brandon Hussey added two touchdown receptions each.
The Sharks will take on the Rio Grande Valley Dorados next Saturday, April 12th, in the home opener at Radiology Associates Field in the American Bank Center. Kickoff is set for 7:05 pm.
