Grand Rapids Shooting for First Three-Game Winning Streak Since 2003

NEW YORK – Over the past two games, the Grand Rapids Rampage have turned heads around the Arena Football League, scoring a record 176 combined points in wins over the Kansas City Brigade and Los Angeles Avengers. Tomorrow night (April 5), the 2-2 Rampage hope to earn their first three-game winning streak since 2003 on the road against the 1-4 New York Dragons.

Last week, Grand Rapids set a team record for points scored at home in an 84-59 victory over the Avengers. Defensive back and kick return specialist Chris Martin (Brooklyn, N.Y.) set Rampage marks with three kickoff returns for touchdowns and 249 kickoff return yards in the win. He also notched a game-high 8.5 tackles and recovered a fumble, one of four turnovers forced by Grand Rapids. Over the past two games, the Rampage have created nine turnovers while surrendering none of their own.

Meanwhile, Rampage quarterback James MacPherson (Tucson, Ariz.) continued his solid play, connecting on 18 of 22 passes for 215 yards and five touchdowns. With just two career starts under his belt, MacPherson’s 140.3 quarterback rating leads the AFL.

The Rampage will feature a new backup quarterback in tomorrow’s contest after signing former Brigade starter John Fitzgerald (Seminole, Okla.) yesterday and placing Adrian McPherson (Bradenton, Fla.) on injured reserve. Grand Rapids also placed fullback T.J. Watkins (North Augusta, S.C.) on its injured reserve list.
