The Avengers signed lineman Dan Greer and claimed Terrance Joseph on waivers from the Grand Rapids Rampage. To make room from Greer on the 24-player active roster, the Avengers waived lineman Justin Borvansky, who did not play in either of their first two regular season games.
The 6-foot-3, 290-pound Greer played three games for the Avengers during their inaugural 2000 season, making five tackles and one quarterback sack. Following his stint with the Avengers, Greer spent the 2000 NFL exhibition season with the San Francisco 49ers, then went to NFL Europe League’s Rhein Fire, where he was second on the team with five quarterback sacks in 2001. Greer also played with the Canadian Football League’s Calgary Stampeders in 2001.
While playing at Arizona, Greer led the Pacific-10 Conference in quarterback sacks and was a first-team all-conference selection.
Greer will not join the team in time for its game at Dallas Saturday night.
Joseph was placed on the refused to report list. The 6-foot-2, 215-pound Joseph did not play in the Rampage’s season-opening 49-45 victory over the Detroit Fury April 20, but was the starting defensive specialist April 27 against the Indiana Firebirds, making three tackles in a 49-43 loss.
The Avengers opened the season by limiting the New York Dragons to two touchdowns in a 43-25 victory April 19, registering four quarterback sacks, but allowed touchdowns in nine of 10 possessions and had only one quarterback sack and were plagued by tackling problems in a 63-59 loss at Arizona April 27.
