Week 8 From Behind the Nets

The question now is what does the league do to prevent this from happening next year to Chicago, Detroit, New Orleans, and whoever else comes into the league? One idea might be to let existing teams protect fewer players. Let’s say 12 players instead of 14 and let Carolina, L.A., and Buffalo protect 14.
Something must be done because the three newbies are getting blown out every week…
….After a few weeks of blowouts on TNN, the network is gearing up for a huge battle this week between the Rattlers (6-1), and the red-hot San Jose SaberCats (5-2). It should be a great game…
….In case you missed it this week, Florida traded QB Fred McNair and a lineman to Carolina for QB Jim Arrellanes and OS Jack Jackson. McNair has been inconsistent this season and will look for a fresh start with the Cobras. He will team up with fellow former Firebird David McLeod to try to jump-start the stagnet offense. If McNair can stop over-throwing his receivers, the Cobras could make a run at the 12th and final playoff spot.
Florida on the other hand has put the team in the hands of journeyman QB Clemente Gordon. Gordon has played several years in the league and is a vocal leader. His task will be to try and get this very talented team on track and a win in Tampa Bay would be a great start…..
….Something tells me by the first of September, Iowa’s Mike Horacek will be in camp with a NFL team. Mike has the size and the skills to be a top wide receiver on Sundays in the fall…
….Best move of the year so far just might be Oklahoma acquiring QB Jeff Loots from Carolina as a insurance policy for the often injured Ron Lopez. The Wranglers didn’t miss a beat when Ron went down and Loots came in against Orlando last week…
.… Will it be a blowout type weekend? Odds makers think it will be. Of the eight games scheduled this week only three have spreads of under 10 points (two teams are favored by nine and one is favored by 10.) Not to mention, there are three spreads over 20 points…
…..Don’t forget to tune in to TNN an hour before the San Jose against Arizona game for TNN’s special presentation of “The Life and Times of the Arena Football League”. TNN will bring you an up-close look at the birth and rise of the Arena League from its early days to the present and beyond, so get your VCR’s revved up for that one……
…..Jerry Jones was in Oklahoma City last week as he continues to take a look at the league for a possible expansion team in Dallas. No matter what your opinion of Jerry Jones may be – he’s a mover and a shaker and will definitely be a great addition to the AFL if he does get a franchise…
... Speaking of expansion, why has Salt Lake City been over looked for so long?It would be a great spot for a team…
.... And finally, with the number of personnel changes this year, the Destroyers might consider moving their practice facility to the Buffalo airport…
…Until next time, this is Ken Gill from Behind the Nets.
