“The playoffs really start after the 12th game,” he said. “Everything is Toronto. What goes on beyond Toronto will be handled next week.”
The focus this week has been on eliminating errors, concentration and the discipline that was lacking in last Friday’s loss. “We need to absolutely focus on one game at a time. Our situation right now is so critical, every game that we play is critical.”
The feeling around the Cobras practice field is one of respect for a worthy opponent.
“They are a good football team,” said Kay. “With great receivers.”
The Carolina secondary will be concentrating on Phantom receivers such as Damien Harrell, Ty Law, Kerry Brown and Charlie Davidson. None of the players or coaching staff is taking this game lightly. Coach Kay said about the Toronto Phantoms: “They have all of a sudden said, ‘Wait a minute, we can win this thing. We can be in the playoffs,’ and they’re right.”
When asked about the remainder of the season and the playoff picture, Coach Kay was realistic about where his team was in relation to the rest of the league. “We are out there with about eight clubs that are sitting with the thought of trying to get into the playoffs and everybody is competing. One of which is the team we`re playing on Saturday."
