Franklin American Mortgage Company is sponsoring the Darryl Hammond Benefit Scramble golf tournament being held at the Harpeth Hills Golf Course in Nashville, TN on Monday April 27th.
Hammond, who played with the Nashville Kats from 1997 – 2001 and again from 2005 – 2006, is bravely battling ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease). He played 16 years total in the Arena Football League from 1991 – 2006 for six different teams, the longest career of any AFL player in league history. He was a true “ironman” having played both wide receiver and defensive back during his illustrious career.
The tournament is being held as a way to raise funds for Darryl and his family while also raising awareness to ALS.
“If you know him, you love him”, said friend and former teammate James Baron about Hammond. “He has been an example of honor and integrity to our entire community. (Hopefully) others may find it in their hearts to give Darryl our support so we can help him win this battle.”
During the AFL’s 25th anniversary season in 2012, he was named one of the top 25 players in league history.
