San Jose is coming off a perfect 2-0 preseason with wins over the Toronto Phantoms (56-33) and the Carolina Cobras (59-47). A come from behind win. They are looking to carry this momentum into the regular season.
Coach Arbet was happy with his team’s performance in the preseason and looks to capture an Arena Bowl title this year.
“Preseason went perfect I thought,” he said. “We still have a lot of work to do. Hopefully after 14-weeks of the regular season we’re prepared to go to the playoffs and do well. The concern is to win the Arenabowl.”
In the off-season the Saberctas signed many new faces. One was former Arizona Rattler Bob McMillen. He is a veteran two-time all-AFL FB/LB who brings a lot of experience to this young Sabercats team.
McMillen is happy to be playing in San Jose. “It’s a great organization. I’m really looking forward to playing with these bunch of guys here and I think we have a real good chance of winning the championship here.”
John Dutton will be the starting quarterback for the Sabercats this year. Fortunately for Sabercats’ fans, he was very impressive in the preseason, completing 32 of 44 passes for six touchdowns and 413 yards.
Of course, let us not forget about the man, Steve Papin. He also was signed as a free agent by the SaberCats in the off-season and has hopes of winning an Arena bowl championship. “I’m very optimistic. We added some key guys in the off-season. So you know our goal is the Arenabowl championship and I think this year team is destined to win it all.”
San Jose has many good players on their roster and will start the season playing two consecutive home games against Los Angeles and then Arizona. The ‘Cats are primed and ready for an explosive season. Perhaps even culminating in an Arenabowl berth.
