Mad Mike visits the XFL, Part 2

Mad Mike was back in Los Angeles this week to watch the LA Extreme take on their division rival, the Las Vegas Outlaws.

The Outlaws (4-3) came to town in second place behind LA (5-2) in the Western Division. Last week LA crushed the previously undefeated Orlando Rage, 31-6. This week they kept the fans on the edge of their seats right from the pre-game scramble.

By the way, I think the AFL should institute the scramble, only they could call it the pre-game rug burn, it`s just a thought…

This week I`ve decided to highlight some of the players with AFL experience in their resume.

First and foremost for the Extreme, the ex-New Jersey Red Dog QB Tommy Maddox had another great game, going 25 of 36 for 252 yards, and 4 TD`s.

Jeff Russell, who played for the Nashville Kats last year, had 4 tackles and blocked a punt that gave LA 2 points for a safety.

Arizona Rattler Ricky Parker had another huge game for the Extreme; Seven tackles and a recovered a fumble that led to six points. Inside Note to the Rattlers front office, Ricky Parker can fill that hole in your secondary, now that Cedric Walker has become a Firebird, just something to think about Geno…

For Las Vegas I note they have San Jose Sabercat QB Mark Grieb riding the pine behind QB Ryan Clement. Will Grieb be back for the ‘cat`s?

Last week I failed to mention that it was good to see Dan Pearson, the long time Media/PR guy for the Orlando Predators. Dan is now with the Orlando Rage. He is doing well and sends greetings to all you Predators fans.

This week it was my pleasure to spend time talking with a legend in the Arena League, Carl Paganelli. Mr. Paganelli was Supervisor of Officials for the AFL for fourteen years. He now has the same position with the XFL. Mr. Paganelli is a man of great esteem; his efforts on behalf of the AFL truly make him a candidate for the AFL Hall of Fame.

Anyway, it was another great game of football in the City of Angels. LA won, 35 -26.

Many thanks to the LA Extreme organization, the fans of the XFL and to all of you that sent me e-mail about last week`s column.

And now I`m going to go crash an Oscar party, I wonder if I can get the Extreme Cheerleaders to go with me? Hey, it could happen…
