Herein are the 2006 week 9 Power Rankings. And remember, these are only my opinions and are not scientific. Any attempt to use this information for betting purposes is solely at the gambler’s discretion.
| Rank | Team | Record | Previous Rank | Next Up |
| 1 | Dallas Desperados (DAL) | 8-2 | 1 | @NY |
| | A resounding victory over a hot Destroyers team serves notice to the league that Dallas will not go quietly. Road game at New York is suddenly important again. | |||
| 2 | Austin Wranglers (AUS) | 7-3 | 3 | GA |
| | Austin returns to the win column. Host Georgia in Southern tilt. | |||
| 3 | Colorado Crush (COL) | 7-3 | 4 | @GR |
| | Just in case those frisky Kats start getting uppity, the Crush put an end to that uprising—for now. Travel to Grand Rapids next. | |||
| 4 | Nashville Kats (NAS) | 6-4 | 2 | @LV |
| | Kats must rebound from tough loss to the Crush. Travel to Vegas to try their luck and test their odds of winning against another playoff contender. | |||
| 5 | Georgia Force (GA) | 6-4 | 7 | @AUS |
| | Game at Kansas City a welcome relief before traveling to division leading Austin. | |||
| 6 | Orlando Predators (ORL) | 6-4 | 8 | @CLB |
| | Orlando takes care of the Rush. Trip to Columbus could be tough, especially after the Destroyers were destroyed in Dallas. | |||
| 7 | Tampa Bay Storm (TB) | 6-4 | 9 | SJ |
| | Utah an easy win for Marcum and company but the SaberCats could be a tough test. | |||
| 8 | New York Dragons (NY) | 6-4 | 10 | DAL |
| | New York stays in the division race and game against Dallas could narrow the gap or give Dallas a commanding lead. | |||
| 9 | Arizona Rattlers (AZ) | 5-5 | 5 | @UT |
| | Well, so much for command in the Western Division. The SaberCats took a bite out of the snakes and now Vegas has inched into a co-lead in the West. Trip to Utah should help—or does Coach White have a special welcome prepared for his old team? | |||
| 10 | Columbus Destroyers (CLB) | 5-5 | 6 | ORL |
| | Don’t look for smoking guns on the grassy knoll. Dallas just proved to be the better team. Columbus seeks to get back into the Destroying business against Orlando. | |||
| 11 | Philadelphia Soul (PHI) | 5-5 | 11 | CHI |
| | Close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades—and in horseshoes it doesn’t count if your opponent gets a “ringer!” Philly still inconsistent. The good news is that another inconsistent team, from Chicago, comes to town. Pour on that brotherly love! | |||
| 12 | Las Vegas Gladiators (LV) | 5-5 | 13 | NAS |
| | Can I believe my eyes? Are the Gladiators sharing the lead in the West? Test comes when the Kats from Nashville come to town. | |||
| 13 | San Jose SaberCats (SJ) | 4-6 | 16 | @TB |
| | Are the big cats back? Win over Arizona keeps them in the race. Need to follow that up with a win at Tampa Bay. | |||
| 14 | Chicago Rush (CHI) | 4-6 | 12 | @PHI |
| | Loss to Orlando hurts. Get a reprieve in game at Philly. | |||
| 15 | Los Angeles Avengers (LA) | 3-7 | 15 | @KC |
| | Last year’s division winners are this year’s cellar dwellers. Game at Kansas City should help. | |||
| 16 | Grand Rapids Rampage (GR) | 3-7 | 16 | COL |
| | At the start of the season I thought Grand Rapids would be somewhat competitive. Well, they haven’t been and now Colorado comes to town. | |||
| 17 | Utah Blaze (UT) | 3-7 | 17 | AZ |
| | Utah’s former Rattlers welcome the current Rattlers to the Salt Lake Valley. Can the Blaze burn a hole in Arizona’s playoff hopes? | |||
| 18 | Kansas City Brigade (KC) | 1-9 | 18 | LA |
| | It’s official—Kansas City’s first year will be a losing season. But the fans still have fun! Host LA next. | |||

He followed Arena Football since its inception, at one point watching tape-delayed games on low-powered WAV-TV in Waukesha. His happiest day was when Milwaukee was awarded the Mustangs franchise; his saddest when the Mustangs were contracted out of the league.
