Fury Lose Game and Quarterback

The Detroit Fury lost to the Las Vegas Gladiators 60-34. After the game, Fury QB Billy Dicken was seen holding his left arm as he walked to the locker room.

A team representative later disclosed that he had a broken left elbow and would be out for the rest of the season. Fury head coach Tom Luginbill used Dicken to replace starting QB Andy Kelly in the second quarter after Kelly gave up two interceptions. The second interception in particular was thought to be the result of a bad decision by Kelly. Dicken went 15-25-1 with 3 touchdowns for a total of 172 yards in the losing effort.

The Thomas & Mack in Las Vegas continues to be tough on coaches as well. Las Vegas head coach Frank Haege and Luginbill had three unsportsmanlike conduct personal fouls between them. Haege said he definitely deserved a warning for going on the field but felt the flag was thrown a little quickly. Luginbill said both of the fouls against him were for requesting an explanation of an unusual call: a “defensive leg whip.”

Neither Las Vegas nor Detroit is likely to make the playoffs. However, for the Fury (3-9), with their starting quarterback turning in a poor performance and their backup quarterback injured, their next game against Chicago (7-4) will be even more difficult.
