Fury Try to Bite the Rattlers

Detroit will look to even their record at 1-1 when they travel to Phoenix to take on the Arizona Rattlers Friday night at America West Arena. The Fury look to bounce back from a defeat suffered at the hands of the San Jose SaberCats in the season opener last Thursday.

Detroit will have a new weapon at their disposal with the arrival of the recently acquired Thabiti Davis, who will see his first action of the year in a Fury uniform. “I just look to come in and make big plays. Whether it’s in special teams, or as a receiver, my goal is to make big plays.”

Since Thabiti came from Orlando to Detroit, a question about the weather was necessary. “It was cold when I stepped off the plane. That wind was cold!” Thabiti will be slotted behind Junior Lord at the receiver spot.

While Detroit suffered a loss in their first game, the Rattlers also dropped the season opener 51-32 to Los Angeles. The game saw Arizona QB Sherdrick Bonner throw an uncharacteristic four interceptions.

“We know he (Bonner) is going to come back strong. He is just like Andy Kelly in that he is a veteran, and he will always bounce back,” said Fury coach Tom Luginbill who still looks for his first win as a head coach in the Arena League. “The thing that we have to prepare for the most is that they have a very disciplined kicking game. That’s why we put in a lot of work on special teams today.”

The Fury return home next week as they open up divisional play when the Indiana Firebirds come to the Palace to face the Fury on Monday night at 7:30.
