Valor Add 12 to Training Camp Roster

Wednesday March 21, 2018

Returning players combined for 54 starts, 137 tackles and five touchdowns in 2017

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Washington Valor announced today the signing of 12 players to the team’s training camp roster, including returning contributors Dominic Addison (DB), Will Corbin (OL/FB), James “Jimmy” Gordon (LB), Michael Knight (DB) and Jake Payne (DL).

“We are excited about this group of signings as it delivers a core of returning, young, up-and-coming players mixed with a fresh group of talented first-year players,” Valor Head Coach Dean Cokinos said. “The plan is to add more veteran players during free agency and to build a roster with a good blend of youth and experience that will promote a competitive training camp roster that focuses on teamwork.”

Addison contributed to one of the AFL’s best defensive backfields last season, starting in all but one of Washington’s 14 games and registering 50 solo tackles, good for second on the team.

Corbin started in all 13 games he appeared in, splitting time between offensive line and fullback. Corbin ran for 110 yards and three touchdowns in 2017.

Gordon started at linebacker in all but one game, leading the team in tackles for loss (5), sacks (4.5) and tying for the team-lead in forced fumbles (2). Gordon also rushed for two touchdowns.

Knight joined the Valor defensive backfield for the final five games of the season – averaging 5.0 tackles per game, second on the team among players with at least three games played. Knight also registered two interceptions, good for second on the team behind veteran DB Tracy Belton.

Payne appeared in 13 games, started in 11 and tied for third on the team in both tackles for loss (3) and sacks (3).
