Veteran quarterback joins Baltimore after five years with Tampa Bay, Orlando

BALTIMORE, MD – The Baltimore Brigade announced today the signing of quarterback Randy Hippeard, the Arena Football League’s 2017 Most Valuable Player and Offensive Player of the Year.

“This is a landmark day for the Baltimore Brigade,” Brigade Head Coach Omarr Smith said. “Adding the reigning MVP to our team is an instant upgrade. Randy exhibits great leadership on and off the field and his competitive spirit will be infectious to all of his teammates. We are thrilled to have Randy as the face of the Baltimore Brigade.”

In 2017, Hippeard led the AFL in passing yards (3,506), completions (328), attempts (494), fewest interceptions thrown (8) and ranked second in passing touchdowns (80).

A five-year AFL veteran, Hippeard played three seasons with the Tampa Bay Storm (2013, 2014, 2017) and two seasons with the Orlando Predators (2015, 2016), accumulating 15,185 passing yards and 323 passing touchdowns.

“I am very grateful for the opportunity to play for the Baltimore Brigade and be a part of the Monumental Sports & Entertainment family,” Hippeard said. “I was born and raised just down the road in Alexandria, Virginia, so it means that much more to be able to do it all close to home. I’ve very excited for what we can accomplish.”

“We are fortunate to have a player with Randy’s credentials become part of our team,” Baltimore Brigade Managing Partner Roger Mody said. “He was the AFL’s MVP last year and a proven winner whose leadership will help the Baltimore Brigade compete every night as we bring an exciting team to Charm City.”

Originally from Stafford, Va., Hippeard attended and played at the University of Virginia-Wise from 2005-08 and was named Mid-South Conference Player of the Year as a senior. Before joining the Storm in 2013, Hippeard spent time with the Winterthur Warriors (Switzerland), Columbus Lions (PIFL) and the Knoxville Nighthawks (PIFL).

The 2018 Brigade regular season, presented by MedStar Health, kicks off in Baltimore, MD, on Fri., April 13, when the Brigade host the Washington Valor at 7 p.m. at Royal Farms Arena. Following their season opener, the Brigade travel to Philadelphia on Sat., April 21 for a Week 2 matchup with the defending-champion Soul, a rematch of last season’s semifinal matchup.
