Soul head into Conference Championship week

Philadelphia Will Face Jacksonville to Play in ArenaBowl

PHILADELPHIA (Aug. 5, 2013) - The Philadelphia Soul will visit the Jacksonville Sharks to play in the American Conference Championship on Saturday, Aug. 10 at 7 p.m. ET. The Soul are now within one win from appearing in back-to-back seasons in the AFL's ArenaBowl.

With this week titled, "Shark Week," the Soul are ready to make a statement and bring another championship to the city by beating Jacksonville. This week is a familiar situation to Philadelphia, who beat the Jacksonville Sharks in the conference championship last year, 89-34, setting the AFL's largest margin of victory in a postseason game.

"We're excited to be here again," explained Soul head coach Clint Dolezel. "We worked hard to get to where we are this season. We had knew what we were capable of. There's a lot of talent on this team for us to not make a run at the championship, we just need to stay focused on the prize."

This season has been a storied season for the Soul, who earned East Division Champions and double-digit wins in back-to-back seasons for the first time in franchise history. Since the 2012 championship-bound season, the Soul became the city's top winner, having a win percentage of .750, compared to the Flyers (.585), Phillies (.480), 76ers (.472), Union (.447), Wings (.412), and Eagles (.375).

The success of the Soul came in part to MVP Candidate and Offensive Player of the Year Candidate WR Tiger Jones. Jones, who was invited to the Philadelphia Eagles training camp last season, is the first receiver in professional football history to record three consecutive seasons of 2,000 or more receiving yards in a season, and the first player to record three 2,000 yard seasons in AFL history. In just two seasons, he became the Soul's all-time leader in receptions (283) and receiving yards (4,131).

The Soul can also credit their success to FB Derrick Ross. Ross became the AFL's all-time leading rusher after just three seasons in the League. He also is second in AFL history with career rushing touchdowns, only 21 touchdowns shy of the League record.
