One is the loneliest number, especially when you are referring to the Detroit Fury’s victory total last year. Things should change this year behind a new coach and a re-vamped passing attack, the Fury look primed for a playoff run.

“The quarterback is our number one priority.” Fury head coach Al Luginbill said from his news conference announcing his hiring. “Our biggest area that needed improvement was our pass protection. We feel we have done that.”

Protection was defiantly an issue last year for the Fury as they went through four different quarterbacks. The Fury believe they have solved the quarterback situation this year however, as they acquired the most prolific passer in the history of the arena game in Andy Kelly. Kelly is the AFL’s all-time leader in passing yards (23,882), passing touchdowns (455), completions (2,111), and attempts (3,429).

“We believe we have stabilized the QB position in getting Andy Kelly.” Luginbill said.

The Fury also added a big target for Kelly with 6-3, 210 pound wideout Marcus Nash. Nash, a former first round pick of the Denver Broncos, will be joining returning receivers Chuck Winters and Ty Grovesteen.

INSIDE THE FURY

Gone from the Fury is crowd favorite Robert Gordon. Gordon was asked to re-negotiate his contract, but when he refused, he was released…Also gone is LB R-Kal Truluck, who was featured in the trade that enabled the Fury to obtain Andy Kelly, but hey, you have to give something to get something…The Fury open up the season at home in the Palace, as they take on the Indiana Firebirds.
