Pete Unleashed: Todd Marinovich?

Why does he have to play anymore? Hasn`t he been a bit of an embarrassment already? This kid has had everything done for him, including his dad paying thousands of dollars on personal trainers, and he still messed it up. This is a ludicrous signing. My prediction is that by mid-season he will be on the street unemployed.
Mike Pawlawski. Well, I commend the guy for standing up for rights for himself and the players. I knew he would be blackballed sooner or later. That’s right, everyone. You probably don’t want to hear this but I think Greg Hopkins and he are getting shafted because they signed that lawsuit. I predict 4 weeks into the season the Birds will be 1-3 and you will see Pawlawski and Hopkins back in a Birds uniform.
Around the league: WOW, it really feels good when predictions come true. In my last column I suggested that Clint Dolezel was good enough to leave for the NFL right now. Well, through my very good sources I’ve heard that he will be heading to the Chicago Bears!! Clint has all the tools of a fine Quarterback. In my estimation, if put in the right system, he could break all of Warner’s rookie NFL records.
My good friend Rick Buffington is now coaching with the Grand Rapids Rampage. That is an instant upgrade to their coaching staff and I wish him all the luck.
Sylvester Bembery (OL/DL) is still going strong at the ripe age of 35. Sylvester and I had some great times playing together for Albany from 1990-93. Hopefully, this will be his last year and then we can see Big Bem as a line coach in this league someday. He will instantly upgrade the Buffalo line as will Dave Caldwell, a former teammate of mine and a cagey veteran.
A sad note. Cowboy Bobby Duncum, Jr., a former Arena League player for the Dallas Texans and WCW pro wrestler, has recently passed away. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family and friends. I remember talking with him before the 1992 playoff game between Dallas and Albany and he said he would never follow in his dad’s footsteps and be a pro wrestler. Guess it was in the blood.
Till next week, this is Pete Porcelli.
