Rattlers Add Standout Veteran and Rookie Wide Receivers

Poots and Bersin join 2013 roster

Mesa, AZ - The Arizona Rattlers have been assigned the contracts of two outstanding wide receivers, AFL veteran Tysson Poots and rookie Brenton Bersin.

Poots, 6'2" and 225 pounds, spent last season with the Utah Blaze where he recorded 108 catches for 1,167 yards and 30 touchdowns in 11 games. He was second in the AFL in receptions per game (9.8) and first among AFL rookies in scoring average per game (17.6).

In 2011 he signed as an undrafted free agent with the Dallas Cowboys before being released during the final cuts.

Poots finished his career at Southern Utah University seventh all-time in the Football Championship Subdivision in receiving yards per game (99.4), ninth in receptions (282) and receiving touchdowns (43). His senior year Poots recorded 85 catches for 1,230 yards and 11 TDs, ranking fourth in the nation in receptions and yards per game.

As a junior, Poots earned Fabulous-50 recognition from College Sporting News and was honored as a second-team all-American by The Sports Network.

Poots was also named the 2010 NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision Elite Wide Receiver by College Football Performance Awards.

Bersin, who was signed as an undrafted free agent with the Carolina Panthers in 2012, stands 6'3" and weighs in at 215 pounds.

A product of Wofford College, Bersin caught 26 passes for 445 yards and two touchdowns in 2011. He also had 12 carries for 169 yards and five returned punts.

Bersin finished his career fifth in school history with 1,567 receiving yards and third with 15 touchdown receptions.

Playing for a team that won the Southern Conference Championship in 2012, Bersin had 32 receptions for 703 yards and nine touchdowns. His 703 yards were third most in a single season in school history and his nine TDs tied the school record set by Panthers owner Jerry Richardson.
