Orlando Predators to name Winter Park’s Bret Munsey Head Coach

 ORLANDO - The Arena Football League’s Orlando Predators will introduce former Preds player and assistant coach Bret Munsey as the team’s new head coach on Friday.

The Winter Park native spent three seasons with the Predators from 2003-05, where he served as secondary coach and director of player personnel before becoming head coach of the Philadelphia Soul. Munsey led the Soul to a 35-20 overall mark in three playoff seasons (2006-08), including a 13-3 record and ArenaBowl title in 2008.

Munsey returns to the indoor game after spending the past two seasons as director of player personnel in the United Football League, where he currently holds that position with the Virginia Destroyers.

While in Orlando as an assistant coach under Fran Papasedero and Jay Gruden, the Preds went a combined 34-19 with Munsey on staff.

“It’s no secret that Bret Munsey was the hottest head coaching candidate on the market in the Arena Football League,” Preds Managing Partner Brett Bouchy said. “He has a championship, and a winning record to back it up. It’s a testament to our fans and organization that we were able to land him.”

Munsey also spent one season as an assistant coach with the Carolina Cobras in 2001, in between stints in arenafootball2 as an assistant with Augusta (2000) and head coach of the Tennessee Valley Vipers (2002), where he was named coach of the year.

A former three-sport star at Winter Park High School in football, basketball, and track, Munsey played college football at Concord College (WV) and was a member of the Orlando Predators football team from 1991-95.
