Cats Extinguish Fire

Saturday was an almost perfect night for the South Georgia Wildcats, as they welcomed the Louisville Fire to The Albany James H Gray Civic Center at Cooper Tire Field. Even though there is a drought situation in Georgia and a ban on outdoor watering, no one said anything about putting out a fire. This is exactly what happened Saturday night as the Wildcats defeated the Fire 77-53.
From the initial kickoff, the Wildcats seemed intent on dominating the game.
The Cats broke out the first extinguisher with 6:49 left in the first quarter, recovering an off the net fumble, resulted in a five yard touchdown pass to Scott Coleman.
The fire hoses were brought in at the 2:31 mark of the first quarter. On a sure touchdown pass, Daryon Brutley forced a fumble, recovered and returned it to the Louisville 16 yard line.
Several battalions were then called in as Greg Golden intercepted a pass in the endzone. Just before the half, instead of sitting on the ball to run out the clock, Offensive Coordinator Rickey Foggie rolled the dice and quarterback D. Bryant connected on a 47 yard touchdown pass to wide receiver James Robinson.
“We went in at halftime and we had to tell each other that we had to keep pouring it on”, said Greg Golden. “That was our thang keep pouring it on, keep pouring it on. Because that’s what Coach Stingley wanted.”
Ask and you will receive, as South Georgia kept pouring it on, scoring on all but two possessions, one at the end of the game to run out the clock, posting 77-points on the scoreboard, calling in fire stations from surrounding areas to make sure the Louisville Fire was extinguished.
Congratulations to D Bryant, as he is the AF2’s Schutt Sports Offensive Player of the Week. The last time he won this award was with the Albany Conquest in 2005. D. Bryant completed 17-of-22 passes for 271 yards and nine touchdowns in the game.
James Robinson led the receivers with eight receptions for 194 yards and five scores.
